Adopt-A-Dairy-Cow

Ongoing

Adopt-A-Dairy-Cow

We are on track to provide 70,000 gallons of healthy and nutritious milk to those facing hunger in southwestern Wisconsin this year. While that is an impressive number, the reality is if we hit that target we will have provided just one gallon of milk to less than two-thirds of the people we serve each year. One gallon of milk per person per year is just a small fraction of what the USDA recommends to maintain a healthy and balanced diet. With your help, we can do better!

Another reality we face is that milk is rarely donated, in fact 67% of the milk we are able to provide is milk we have to purchase. That’s why we need your help! In order to provide more milk, we need to raise more of the funds needed to purchase the milk.

You can help us reduce that gap between what is needed and what we're able to provide (a.k.a. the "Milk Gap") by "adopting" a dairy cow today.

When you "adopt" a dairy cow, you are making a donation that we will use to purchase milk and distribute it to those facing hunger in southwestern Wisconsin. You can choose to "adopt" the milk production from one morning for only $20, a day's worth of milk for $36 or a week's worth for $252!  Consider getting your workplace involved by hosting a donation drive to provide one month's worth of milk for $1,080.  You can help those struggling with hunger and help reduce the "Milk Gap".

This June, all donations will be matched, up to $22,500 thanks to generous sponsors: Roth Cheese, Sysco - Baraboo, Madison Horizons Rotary, Clack Corporation and Compeer Financial.

Beyond feeling good about helping those facing hunger this summer, each adopter will receive an adoption certificate that features the "sassy" bovine beauty of their choice.

We are excited to announce that each "adopter", during the month of June, will also receive a certificate to attend a Friday Farm Tour at Sassy Cow Creamery at their convenience!

What are you waiting for?  Adopt-A-Dairy-Cow now!

If you are interested in learning more about sponsorship opportunities during June Dairy Month, please email Lisa Gundlach, or call 608.216.7212.

We are proud to announce that the Adopt A Dairy Cow program was awarded the 2017 Innovator of the Year Award through Feeding America!

Hunger's Hope Radiothon

March 8, 2018

Thank you for being Hunger's Hope

Together we raised more than 194,000 meals on March 7th!  Thank you!

On Thursday, March 7th, from 6 a.m. - 7 p.m. today during the Hunger's Hope Radiothon, donations made will be doubled* by Alliant Energy Foundation, Genesis Painting and other generous donors. Gifts made during the radiothon will go to support our Mobile Pantry Program. Last year one-third of all food distributed by Second Harvest Foodbank went out on mobile pantries. The program provides an invaluable supplement to the work local partner agencies are providing to those facing hunger in southwestern Wisconsin.

To have your gift DOUBLED* just call toll-free 844-8HUNGER (844-848-6437) or make an online gift from 6 a.m. - 7 p.m. Help us reach our goal of raising 138,000 meals for our friends and neighbors in southwestern Wisconsin who are struggling with hunger. Thanks to the gifts being doubled*, for every $1 you give, you can provide up to 6 meals!
